Pictured yesterday, is orange mine drainage runoff from the above treatment plant at the base of Mount Pisgah in the southeast section of Tamaqua. This has been like this since 2003, when the plant was built after the Department of Environmental Protection required Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company to reclaim former mine lands on the mountain. The draining water is mixed with lime, which results in an orange color from iron filtering out of the water.
