CHURCH, BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS DONATE TO SEARCH CREWS IN COALDALE

CombinedA Tamaqua church, local businesses and a few other people stepped up to the plate yesterday (Sat. Feb. 1, 2014) by providing needed food donations to over three dozen volunteers who spent all daylight Saturday searching the mountains around Coaldale for a missing man.
The Tamaqua Volunteers group was contacted Saturday morning by a member of the Coaldale Fire Company in hopes of acquiring food donations for all the search volunteers. A donation campaign held online via the group resulted in only a few people donating. So members with the Tamaqua Volunteers group and the fire company decided to ask businesses and such for donations.
Donating were Domino’s Pizza of Tamaqua, La Dolce Casa of Tamaqua, Trinity United Church of Tamaqua, Wal-Mart of Hometown, Tommy’s of Coaldale and Angela Theater of Coaldale. Volunteers stated their appreciation to all who donated.
Receiving the donations were area firefighters, police, Valley Search and Rescue, Northeast Search and Rescue and other local emergency services.
The missing man was identified as Corey Michael Samuels, 24, of Coaldale. Search crews spent Friday and Saturday looking for the missing man; sadly, without success. As of now, all ground searches have stopped. There are no future ground searches planned.
The Coaldale Police Department encourages the public to contact their department or contact Schuylkill County Communication Center at (570) 668-6100 with any information.

  1. […] Despite two days of searching and hundreds of volunteer man-hours, the search for a missing Coaldale man was unsuccessful. Volunteers, firefighters, police and K9 search teams spent Friday and Saturday searching the mountains and coal pockets between Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill for Corey Michael Samuels, 24. Officials state that Samuels was missing since January 20. Two staging locations were set up in preparation to the searches. They included St. Joseph’s Church parking lot in Summit Hill and the Third Street mine entrance in Coaldale. K9 units with Northeast Search and Rescue’s Unit and Valley Search and Rescue also assisted in the search. On January 23, a family member of Samuels contacted the Coaldale Police Department to report Samuels missing. He was then entered in NCIC/CLEAN as a missing person. Further information from police shows that someone might have spotted Samuels around 10 PM on January 20 in the south side of the Borough on the Lehigh Anthracite Mine property. Samuels is described as a 24-year-old white male, 5 foot 9 inches, and about 160 pounds. He has brown hair, hazel eyes, and a tattoo of a joker on his left arm. They added that he also wears glasses with a goatee. As of Saturday night, all ground searches have stopped. There are no future ground searches planned.
