US209 near Middleport in Blythe Township was closed for about an hour today following a two-vehicle accident that sent one woman to the hospital. The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 PM on the Middleport Curve, near the intersection of Coal Street on North Valley Street (US209).
According to unofficial information from a firefighter on scene, a male driver of grey 4-door Mercury Grand Marquis LS was traveling south on US209 when he lost control on the wet roadway, spun 160 degrees and came to rest on the opposite side of the road facing the correct way of traffic. Sometime after that, a female driver of a grey two-door Toyota Yaris crashed into the rear of the Mercury.
A family member’s comment on Facebook said the male, from Tamaqua, suffered a concussion and minor injuries. It is unknown what injuries the woman had.
Responding were Tuscarora Fire Company, Kaska Fire Company, Good Intent Fire Company of New Philadelphia, State Police, Schuylkill EMS, fire police and others.
Hope’s Towing removed both vehicles.
None of the information above is official as a press release wasn’t given. Video: Photos:
