A reminder that the Tamaqua Middle School Music Department will present its annual “Holiday Music Program” today (Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 7:00 PM) in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature performances by the middle school sixth grade band and the middle school choruses. The concert is free and open to the public. Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:15 PM.

The Sixth Grade Band under the direction of Marsha Rodgers will open the concert with “Tidings of Joy” by Robert W. Smith. They will then play “Holiday Fanfare” by Michael Story. “Gingerbread Men on Parade” is the band’s next selection. The band closes the first half of the program with “St. Nick Salsa” by Michael Story.

The middle school 6th Grade General Chorus will begin the second half of the evening’s program. The chorus begins with “Baby Born in Bethlehem” by Jay Althouse. The concert continues with the chorus singing “Season of Wonder, Season of Light” by David Neches. The 6th Grade Chorus closes it’s set with the holiday classic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.

The middle school 7th & 8th Grade General Chorus will perform next singing ”Lift Up Your Voice, Alleluia” and “Candle in the Window” by Sally Albrecht. They follow those selections with the Faith Hill holiday smash “Where Are You Christmas?”

Last to take the stage is the 7th & 8th Grade Select Chorus. They begin by singing “Sing Out a Joyful Song!” by Dave and Jean Perry. They then will sing “Carol of the Star” by Donald Moore which is based on a traditional French carol. The concert comes to a close with two holiday standards, a jazzy version of “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” and the Nat King Cole classic “The Christmas Song.”

The middle school choirs are under the direction of John D. Buglio.
