Tamaqua held its annual Tree Lighting last Sunday at the Depot Square Park in Tamaqua as part of the Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Festival.
In addition to the tree lighting, the event, organized by members of the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce, included caroling via the Tamaqua Area High School Jazz Chorale, comments by Mayor Chris Morrison, and free cookies and hot chocolate at the ambulance building.
Winners of the cookie contests and tree festival were also announced. Placing top in the tree festival were Steven and Joy Gintz (first place), Xi Delta Omega Sorority (second place), and Tamaqua Business & Professional Women’s Club (third place). Placing top in the cookie contest were Shaile Wakefield (drop cookie category), Vicky Unitis (bar cookie category), and Christine Fritz (decorated cookie category).
Members of the Commerce praised Frank Fabrizio on his work. Fabrizio said he utilized over 8,000 lights were used on the tree.
