For the third time in the last few months, firefighters were called to a structure fire at the same six-unit row home along the 200 block of West Sherman Street in McAdoo.
Just after 8 AM today, emergency responders were dispatched to the area of 210 West Sherman Street for a working structure fire at the center of the row home.
Firefighters responding quickly and were able to limit the fire to the basement of the property. The property is one of six connected, vacant dwellings; which include 204, 206, 208, 212 and 214 West Sherman Street.
On Thursday, September 24, 2015, emergency personnel were called twice to 214 West Sherman Street (located at the end of the six-unit dwelling) for a working structure fire. The first fire started shortly after 8 PM, and a rekindle started shortly after 11:30 PM. At the time, two people lived at 210 West Sherman and one person at 214 West Sherman Street. A firefighter said there is a common walkway above all units. The six-unit dwelling was eventually condemned by the borough following that fire. McAdoo Fire Chief Rob Leshko said today’s fire is suspicious since all the units were currently condemned and without power. He added that a State Police fire marshal has been called to the scene.
McAdoo Police praised area neighbors for noticing smoke and calling 911.
Robert Wills, McAdoo councilman, praised the McAdoo Fire Company, Tresckow Fire Company, McAdoo Police and others for their quick response.
According to courthouse records, the two-story, wood-frame building is owned by Roman Wilfred of Jackson Heights, New York.
Wills is asking residents to keep an extra eye open for trespassers and suspicious activity in and around the property.
