A man is in custody today (Sunday, October 4, 2015) following an early morning police pursuit and head-on crash in Ryan Township that sent four people to the hospital.
Officials said that the driver of a gray Chevrolet Equinox lost control around 1:20 AM on a curve on Brockton Mountain Drive (just north of the intersection of Back Road/State Road/Moss Glen Road) and crashed head-on into another Chevrolet Equinox traveling north.
The head-on crash caused heavy damage to both vehicles and resulted in three women in the on-coming vehicle and a man in the fleeing vehicle to be taken to the hospital.
Police said one person in the fleeing vehicle escaped on foot following the crash. He was later apprehended after being spotted around 7:30 AM by Hometown Fire Police volunteers along SR54 in Rush Township.
State Police were on scene until around 7 AM reconstructing the accident. Hometown Fire Police directed traffic around the area for the duration.
Responding to the accident were fire companies from Mahanoy City, Ryan Township, Hometown and others. Law enforcement officials on-scene were Mahoning Township Police, Mahanoy City Police, Rush Township Police, Frackville Police, Shenandoah Police and State Police. Also responding were Ryan Township Ambulance, Shenandoah Ambulance, Frackville Ambulance, and APTS Ambulance.
