Members and volunteers with the Schuylkill United Way (SUW) held their Kick-Off Picnic on Friday (August 14, 2015) at the Barefield Park in Pottsville. Organizers held the free event to celebrate the start of their 2016 campaign and to support SUW Partner Agencies. Local agencies that benefit from SUW are the Tamaqua Salvation Army, Tamaqua Meals on Wheels and Tamaqua YMCA.
In addition to free food and refreshments, agency members and their families took part in various activities. Some included miniature golf, sand soccer, face painting, batting cages, and so on. The event also included visits by Patrick from SpongeBob, Dora The Explorer, Penn State Nittany Lion, and Red Cross mascots.
The SUW supports 15 partner agencies in the county. They are American Red Cross of Schuylkill County, Avenues, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Schuylkill County, Boy Scouts of America (Hawk Mountain Council), Child Development, Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, Salvation Army (Pottsville Corps), Salvation Army (Tamaqua Corps), Sexual Assault Resource & Counseling Center of Schuylkill County, Schuylkill County Society for Cripple Children, Schuylkill Wellness Services, Schuylkill Women is Crisis, Schuylkill YMCA, Tamaqua Area Meals of Wheels, and Tamaqua YMCA.
