FISHERMEN BRAVE THE COLD AT RABBIT RUN DAM FOR FIRST DAY OF TROUT SEASON

DSCF0103Despite cold temps, wind, and occasional rain and sleet, local fishermen turned out today (Saturday, April 4, 2015) to enjoy the first day of trout season at Rabbit Run Dam. Schuylkill County is one of eighteen Southeast Pa. counties that have an earlier start to the season than the rest of the state. The remaining counties start on April 18th. Most caught their limit or a few less.

Rabbit Run has been a popular fishing location in the Tamaqua area for several decades, and recently was set back by a theft in June 2014 of fish from the hatchery, tools and equipment including a generator and gas burners. No one was ever arrested for the crime. The Rabbit Run Association has been hoping that the public will donate money and also volunteer helping hands in order to prepare for the upcoming 47th annual Kid’s Derby taking place on May 2nd, as well as the May 3rd Button Day fishing event. Several cash donations were received today, but more help is needed.

Donations to Rabbit Run Dam can be made to William Weaver, 207 Race Street, Tamaqua PA  18252. Checks should be made out to Rabbit Run Fish and Game Association. Mr. Weaver can be contacted by phone at 570-657-1364 or via Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/william.weaver.5011.
