A 17-year-old girl from Nesquehoning was killed during a three vehicle crash yesterday morning (Sunday, March 1, 2015) on SR309 in Tamaqua, near the border of South Tamaqua/West Penn Township. Emergency personnel were called just after 8 AM for a report of a serious three-vehicle accident with ejection.
A sedan and two sport utility vehicles were involved in the crash. Two of which suffered serious damage.
Officials placed a blue tarp over the victim while police investigated and crews cleared the scene.
Another person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Tamaqua Police said 17-year-old Autumn Lynn Young of Nesquehoning, traveling north in a silver 2000 Chrysler Sebring, lost control and impacted a vehicle (a gold 2009 Nissan Murano LE) driven by 56-year-old Nancy Ann Evans of Macungie. The crash ejected Young from the vehicle. She succumb to her injuries.
Another vehicle, a black 1999 Honda CR-V driven by Robert Butcher of Morrisville, swerved up a snow bank to avoid hitting the cars, which were both on the southbound side of SR309.
Responding were Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Citizen’s Fire Company, South Ward Fire Company, Tamaqua Ambulance, Tamaqua Police, West Penn Police and others.
Tamaqua Police Detective Corporal Henry Woods is the investigative officer.
Hope’s Towing and Collision removed the vehicles.
Tamaqua Fire Police and West Penn Fire Police closed both lanes of SR309 for about 2 hours in the area during the response and investigation.
