Family Dollar in Tamaqua is expected to stay open until January 25, 2015. The current store, located at 137 North Railroad Street, will be relocating south of the Tamaqua Burger King on Center Street in the borough. The new location consists of 4 separate parcels to be consolidated. The parcels are located at 125 and 127 Center Street and the two adjacent parcels north of 125 Center Street.
Until then, shoppers can take advantage of closing discounts. Present store hours are 9 AM to 7 PM.
Online information states that the store’s current lease is expiring soon and St. Luke’s, which currently occupies the other half of the North Railroad Street building, is showing interest in the property.
The new Tamaqua store, 80-feet by 104-feet, will sit on a 100-feet by 220-feet lot, with 16 parking spaces. Unofficial information states that construction and of its new location next to Burger King could take over a year.

In addition, next Thursday (January 22, 2015), Family Dollar will open its new store in Mahanoy City at 139 West Centre Street.
Family Dollar announced in April 2014 that it expected to close about 350 stores. According to published reports, no area stores are slated to close.
