CHARLIE G. HOLLENBACH NAMED GRAND MARSHAL OF TAMAQUA VETERAN’S DAY PARADE (NOV. 8, 2014)

The Tamaqua American Legion Post 173 Annual Veteran’s Day Parade is set for Saturday, November 8, 2014.
Staging will start at 9:00 AM at the old MAFF Motors (900 East Broad Street).
Prior to the parade, members of Legion Honor Guard will fire a volley over the Tamaqua War Memorial, located next to the old MAFF Motors.
The parade will start at 10 AM and continue west on Broad Street through the borough, ending at the intersection of Lehigh Street.
Parking will be restricted along the parade route.
Courtney Kovatch, Tamaqua’s 2014 Poppy Queen, will also be walking the parade route.

Leading this year’s parade behind the Tamaqua American Legion Color Guard will be this year’s Grand Marshal Charlie G. Hollenbach, 86, of Tamaqua. Since 1987, Hollenbach, an Army veteran of WWII and the occupation of Korea, has served in many capacities with the Tamaqua American Legion. Post positions held included Commander, First Vice Commander, Historian, Chaplain, Treasurer and dedicated volunteer.
“Hollenbach rarely misses a post function,” said Ed Murphy, First Vice Commander. “He is a man everyone looks up to.”

“It was about time,” said Auxiliary member Nancy Kabana, referring to his selection as Grand Marshal. “He definitely deserves it.”
“I’ll probably succumb in the Legion,” joked Hollenbach, who recalled many good memories at the post. “I plan on staying active until the good Lord takes me.”
“He is a mentor that all members look up to,” said legion member David Meredith. “He deserves it.”
“Charlie is a very kind, gently and dedicated member of the post,” said Ed Smith, past Legion Commander. “He is one hell of a guy.”
“When you take office at the Legion, you join for life,” added Hollenbach. “Its a veteran thing.”
In addition to his volunteer work at the Legion, Hollenbach is a life member of the VFW, and 41-year member of the Citizen’s Fire Company and Tamaqua Fire Police.
Hollenbach’s also stated his love for his daughters Rose Marie Matula and Lillian Betz and his late wife, Lillian, who past away in 2009.
Parade organizers are encouraging everyone to drive, ride or walk in the parade; to include all veterans, businesses, fire companies, churches, youth groups, clubs, organizations, families, individuals and so on.
No pre-registration is required to participate in the parade. Everyone is simply asked to show your support by watching are taking part in the parade.
