Emergency responders were dispatched around 2:15 PM today (Sunday, November 2, 2014) to 50 Long Lane in Ryan Township for a report of a house fire. Situated at the end of a dirt road, the house is located on the outskirts of Grier City (at the border of Rush Township and Ryan Township).
Firefighters arrived to see the three-story home fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters said high winds and the lack of hydrants made it harder to battle the blaze.
The home was lived in by Susanne M. Long and daughter Briana. Susanne was said to be staying with a neighbor.
Portable water dams were set up at various locations to permit a constant flow of water.
Despite a quick response by firefighters, the multi-story home was completely leveled by the fire.
Responding were fire companies from Ryan Township, Mahanoy City, Hometown, Shenandoah, Quakake, Delano, Tuscarora, Walker Township, Hazleton Township and others.
Also responding were Ryan Township Ambulance (who provided rehab) and local police.
Delano Fire Police controlled traffic around the area.
No injuries were reported.
