“AWARENESS, PREPAREDNESS AND WILLINGNESS” STRESSED DURING TAMAQUA’S SEPTEMBER 11 SERVICE; (VIDEO)

September 11 Memorial Service, South Ward Playground, Tamaqua, 9-11-2014 (49)Volunteers held their annual September 11th Memorial Day Service yesterday (September 11, 2014) at the South Ward Playground in Tamaqua.
“Today is a day of remembrance, to mourn those lost 13 years ago,” said Paul Zona, President, Lansford American Legion Riders during the program. “We also know that we must move forward in spite of that tragedy.”
Master of Ceremonies was Richard Hadesty introduced everyone. Pastor Ed Noftz, New Life Assembly of God Church, provided the opening prayer.
September 11 Memorial Service, South Ward Playground, Tamaqua, 9-11-2014 (41)Speakers were State Representative Jerry Knowles, Tamaqua Salvation Army Major Sharon Whispell, County Commissioners Gary Hess, George Halcovage Jr., District Justice Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison, Tamaqua Borough Council President Micah Gursky, Iraq veteran Andrew Leibenguth, Lansford American Legion Riders President Paul Zona, and others.
During the service Dolinda Linkhorst said the National Anthem,  My Country tis of Thee, and God Bless America.
“Awareness, preparedness and willingness to take action are a mindset we cannot afford to lose,” added Zona. In the words of Crosby, Stills & Nash, ‘Teach your children well.’ As a community of individuals, I urge you to teach these values to the next generation. There’s bad guys out there, and there will always be. The next generation will need the values we teach them to face what the future holds. Make them ready for it.”
Event organizer Shelly Bonser stated her appreciation to all the speakers, guests and supporters.
