According to WBRE TV/PAHomepage, officials have released new information regarding the skeletal remains discovered yesterday (Saturday, September 6, 2014) in Coaldale. Two individuals searching for mushrooms in the woods found the remains about a quarter-mile south of the Seek section of Coaldale. (Click HERE to view yesterday’s TamaquaArea.com story.)
Today, a Schuylkill County coroner identified the remains as that of Corey Michael Samuels, 24, of Coaldale.
On January 23 of this year, a family member of Samuels contacted the Coaldale Police Department to report Samuels missing. It was estimated he was missing since January 20th.
In late January and early February, hundreds of community members, firefighters, police and search teams spent multiple hours searching the mountains and coal pockets between Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill for Samuels, without success. Samuel’s Facebook page states he graduated from William Allen High School in Allentown in 2008. It added that he later joined the Marine Corps; discharging in 2012.
The cause and manner of death are pending at this time.
