UPDATE (12 PM / Saturday, July 19, 2014):
From TamaquaArea.com reporter Kathleen Quinn-Farber:
“TJ just spoke with the boro to inquire whether boil advisory has been lifted or not, just to be safe. They told him that repairs were completed at 3am last night (Sat. morning) and that since the lab testing site for the purpose of making sure the water is bacteria free, is not open until Monday morning, the water will be tested at that time.
In other words, please continue to boil water through the weekend and Monday until informed otherwise.”

As of 11:55 PM Friday night (July 18, 2014), Tamaqua Borough and Water Department crews were still on scene of a water main break at the intersection of East Elm Street and Market Street in Tamaqua.
A water boil advisory remains in effect for Dutch Hill residents until repairs are complete. Crews were in the process of charging the lines as of midnight, although no definite completion time was known yet.
On Monday, July 14, 2014, Tamaqua Water Authority personnel found a leak on the thirty-inch main in the area of Elm Street. To repair the leak, that section of the main, which serves the Dutch Hill section of the Borough, was temporarily shutoff at approximately 6 AM this morning (Friday, July 18, 2014). Water service was provided by pumping water from the hydrant located at Market and Union Streets via about 500-feet of hose to the hydrant at Union and Elizabeth Street.

A press release from the borough yesterday stated that this may create conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system. As a result, there is an increased chance the water many contain disease-causing organisms.
Residents are still encouraged to boil their water for at least one minute and let it cool, before using it.

The notice reads: “After repairs have been made and normal service has been restored, the system will be flushed and water samples taken. The water samples will be taken to an independent lab to be tested for bacteria. We will inform you when all corrective actions have been completed and when you no longer need to boil your water.”
The notice asks residents to share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may have not received this notice directly.
It is unknown when the water boil advisory will be lifted.
