A Pottsville man was killed this morning (Thursday, May 15, 2014) when the car he was driving impacted a vehicle carrier on US209 between New Philadelphia and Port Carbon in East Norwegian Township.
Shortly after 9 AM, emergency responders were called to the area in front of Boardman Brothers Motor Car Company in Cumbola for a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.
Witnesses said emergency personnel arrived on scene within a few minutes. They added that rescuers had to cut the roof off the vehicle to extricate the man.
Despite a quick response, the driver succumbed to his injuries.
According to WNEP’s story, the victim was identified by State Police as Scott Bedford, 31, of Pottsville.
Very little damage could be seen on the vehicle carrier.
US209 was closed for about four hours while State Police investigated the crash, and crews cleared the scene.
Responding were firefighters from New Philadelphia, Port Carbon, Cumbola and East Norwegian Township. Pottsville EMS also responded.
A fatal crash occurred last month at the same location. On April 9, a man was killed and his passenger seriously injured after crashing their sport utility vehicle into a tree.
Nearby residents, who wished to remain anonymous, said everyone is now calling the area “Cumbola’s Dead Man’s Curve.” They added that something needs to be done to slow traffic down around the curve.

Easy solution to stop traffic from going so fast around the turn. There’s a thing called the gas pedal located to the right of the brake. Don’t touch it as much.
