Two parked vehicles were damaged after a driver said he swerved to miss a stray dog this morning (Wednesday, April 2, 2014) on North Railroad Street (SR309) in Tamaqua.
Emergency personnel were dispatched around 12:30 AM to the area of 425 North Railroad Street for a multi-vehicle accident with little to no injuries.
The driver of the tan Nissan Sentra told nearby witnesses that he swerved to miss a stray dog that had walked on the road. This allegedly caused him to swerve hard left and into the passenger side of a parked grey Chevy Cavalier. That impact pushed the Chevy into the rear of a parked red Ford Fiesta.
The Nissan incurred heavy damage to the front of the vehicle. The Chevy sustained heavy damage to the right passenger side. The Ford didn’t appear to have severe visible damage, although the owner said it was pushed about 70-80 feet down the road from where it was parked.
Responding were Tamaqua Police, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Tamaqua Ambulance, American Hose Company and East End Fire Company.
Smaller vehicles were detoured around that section of SR309 for the duration. Larger vehicles were asked to stay parked while crews removed the vehicles.
The occupants of the Nissan were cared for by members of the Tamaqua Ambulance crew. No serious injuries were observed.
