TRIMMED TREES

Cut Trees, Noth Lehigh Street, Tamaqua, 8-16-2015 (2)Pictured are trimmed trees at the intersection of North Lehigh Street and Jerome Street in Tamaqua.
Ryan Hager said on Facebook, “It’s called pollarding. It’s a pruning technique used to keep a tree a smaller size. At the end of those cut branches it will end up looking like a gnarly ball after a bit. It will sprout like crazy next yr making pretty dense foliage. But those sprouts shouldn’t be left go for more than 2-3 yrs cause they are not attached very well and will get very heavy and potentially dangerous to motorists and pedestrians.”
He added, “It’s very common and not always done correctly. If it’s done right the tree can live a long healthy life.”
