There will be a memorial service honoring the life of the late Thelma Glatz-Urban, Tamaqua Area High Language Arts teacher, tomorrow (Wednesday, June 24, 2015) from 8 PM to 9 PM at the Tamaqua Area Sports Complex.
Urban, age 40, of Lake Wynonah (formerly of Coaldale), passed away from a heart attack on Monday at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Organizers are asking anyone to bring a Thelma Urban story (something funny, inspirational, memorable…). Memories can also be mailed to 500 Penn Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252. The event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.
Some projects Urban was involved in with her class included Community Fit Day, Hero Project, Anti-Bullying video, Family Day, Book Fair, Teen Read, and community cleanups.
Information via the Tamaqua Blue and White Magazine’s Facebook page reads, “A book will be made for the family with your submitted stories so that one day, her children will know the impact she had on the lives of her students and community. Please deposit these in the collection box at the Senior Stand. If anyone would like to make a donation to the family, there will be a separate collection box at the Senior Stand for that purpose. This event is open to the public. Please share this information.”
Shawn E. Clark Funeral Home in Lansford is handling other services and funeral arrangements. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 3 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 714 Golf Road, Tamaqua PA 18252. Family and friends are invited to call from 1 to 3 PM at the hall. Elder David Parke will officiate services.
In addition, family and friends have set up an online fund drive to benefit her two children titled, “Thelma Urban College Fund for Sean and Violet.” Click HERE to view webpage or to donate.
