NUMEROUS ITEMS DISCUSSED DURING TAMAQUA BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING (May 20, 2015)

Tamaqua Borough Council Meeting, Borough Hall, Tamaqua, 5-20-2015 (1)Numerous topics were discussed during Tamaqua Borough Council’s regular public meeting held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Tamaqua borough hall. The meeting was held Wednesday due to Tuesday’s election.
Like all meetings, residents were encouraged to attend and speak during the meeting.
Officials attending the meeting were Tamaqua Police Chief Rick Weaver, Fire Chief Tom Hartz, Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt, borough secretary Georgia Depos-DeWire, solicitor Michael Greek, Council President Micah Gursky, councilmen Dave Mace, Brian Connely, Dan Evans and Tom Cara. Not present were Mayor Chris Morrison, and councilmen Justin Startzel and Kerry Lasky.
The public meetings are held every first and third Tuesday (or day after Tuesday election day) at 7 PM at the Borough Municipal Building, 320 East Broad Street. For more information or to confirm, call (570) 668-3444.
Below is a quick explanation of actions that occurred during the meeting (Page down further to view photos and a video of the meeting):
– Councilman discussed the KRIZ. Update needs to be sent by the borough by June 1st. East property owner in the KRIZ must fill out an online tax form before June 15 or be subject to a fine. Stay tuned for a related story.
– Borough secretary Georgia Depos-DeWire, read correspondence from Citizen’s Fire Company requesting local roads to be closed for their Annual Bazaar scheduled July 10 – 12. It was approved.
– Depos-DeWire read correspondence from a summer spring program requesting the use of the bungalow since the Tamaqua High School pool is closed temporarily for roof repairs. Borough approved upon further guidelines.
– Borough approved the sale of 234 Columbia Street (an empty lot) for $100 to neighbor Steve Matalavage of 423 East Union Street.
– Borough discussed 2014 and 2015 Community Block Grant Applications.
– Borough council approved the purchase of a lot that formerly housed the Hosak Pontiac dealership in Center Street (US309) in Tamaqua. Click HERE to view a related Times News story.
