A helicopter from Penn Forest utilized water from Tamaqua’s Owl Creek Reservoir to extinguish a 4-5 acre brush fire yesterday (Saturday, May 2, 2015) on Pisgah Mountain Ridge in Tamaqua. Emergency personnel from Schuylkill and Carbon counties were called around 1:30 PM to the area of 161 Owl Creek Road, across from the tree farm.
Firefighters said the helicopter arrived quickly and made more than 5 water drops from water retrieved from the Owl Creek Reservoir.
Responding were West Penn Fire Company, Tamaqua’s East End Fire Company, Tamaqua’s South Ward Fire Company and it forestry crew, Diligence Fire Company in Summit Hill, Walker/New England Fire Company, New Ringgold Fire Company, DCNR (Department of Conservation and Natural Resources) Forestry crew and others.
Tamaqua and West Penn Fire Police controlled traffic for the duration.
Acting fire chief Jim Connely stated that there were no injuries. Connely added that the land affected belonged to David Kranch of West Penn.
The last firefighters left around 6:30 PM.
“The cause is under investigation,” said Wes Harner, DCNR forester, Weiser Forest District.
