Emergency personnel were dispatched to Mahanoy Township, just north of Mahanoy City, just before 12 PM today (Tuesday, April 28, 2015) for a brush fire in the area of (8th Street road) Glendon Road on Delano Road (State Route 1012).
Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to a nearby home, located about 150 feet west of the fire.
In addition to heavy smoke and flames, firefighters had to battle blowing winds.
Unofficial information states the brush fire started as a pole fire and spread to the brush below. High winds quickly spread the fire up the mountain. Firefighters were on scene for 2 and a half hours during the response.
Responding were firefighters from Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Company, Mahanoy City’s Good American Fire Company, DCNR Forestry crews and others.
