About the Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps:
The Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps (AHOC) is an AmeriCorps VISTA project, sponsored by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Walmart Foundation, and managed by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. Participants in AHOC work in both rural and urban areas across the country as part of a public-private partnership to improve access to nutrition assistance programs for Americans in need.
Position Description:
Summit Hill Heritage Center, in partnership on the AHOC AmeriCorps VISTA program, is seeking a qualified candidate to:
– Must have verifiable computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Publish
– Applicant must have own transportation.
– Office experience preferred but training will be available.
– Able to work well with adults and children.
– Assist in the implementation, access, and quality of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
– Collaborate with existing partner agencies- including community and faith-based organizations as well as local social service agencies.
– Host USDA program awareness sessions
– Provide support to organizations assisting low-income community members in accessing benefits
– Improve access to nutritious food to Summer Food Service Program participants and families
– Use farmers’ markets and community gardens to improve access
– Expand educational opportunities at sites regarding:
- the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) benefit programs
- Redemption process
- Expand nutrition education by creating materials and conducting trainings.
Time Commitment:
This is a short-term, full-time position beginning June 9, 2015, and lasting through August 3, 2015. You are expected to be available for the needs of your community and project at all times, including days, nights and weekends. Because AmeriCorps VISTA service requires a full immersion in the project and community, both full and part-time employment are strictly prohibited – no exceptions – as well as adhere to some political and religious constraints. Housing:
You are responsible for finding your own housing. No housing allowance will be provided.
Program Benefits:
– $447.00 biweekly living allowance.
