The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, an affiliate of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, is sponsoring its second “Hunger Weekend” to help provide food for families living in the boundaries of the Tamaqua Area School District in need of a helping hand.
Members of TAFFN and The Tamaqua Area Community Partnership are encouraging service organizations, businesses, church groups and individuals to collect food and funds that will be given to the community food banks at the Salvation Army, Tamaqua Trinity United Church of Christ and Primitive Methodist Church – all in Tamaqua – which in turn distribute food to those families that need help. The date for the weekend is May 2 and 3, 2015. with a rain date of May 16 and 17.
Hunger Weekend culminates on Sunday, May 3 at 2 PM with the Tamaqua Community Hunger Walk. Walkers will meet at St. Luke’s parking lot on South Railroad and walk to the Tamaqua Insurance office and back – about a mile distance. Walkers are encouraged to secure sponsors for their walk.
A fellowship time will be held at Zion Lutheran Church following the walk.
Registration forms are available at the Tamaqua Community Art Center on Pine Street and online at www.taffn.org.
Last year, Hunger Weekend organizer Paul Dodson presented checks totaling $2,651.82 to community food banks. In addition to the checks, over 40 boxes, four shopping carts and additional bags of non-perishable food was distributed to the food banks. For more information, contact Dodson at 570-668-0289.
