Over a thousand pieces of colored glass and other tiny shiny things were used to create a colorful mosaic piece unveiled today (Friday, April 10, 2015) above the entrance to the Tamaqua Community Arts Center.
Kim East, designer and mosaic architect, spearheaded the project about 8 months ago. Helping East with the project were Craig Bulger, Joshua Crable, Irene Miller, Sean Huegel, Justin McDonald, Nicadamas East, Eileen East, Nic East and numerous others.

The project was done after volunteers used a projector to trace the center’s logo onto 3X5 foot panels of hardee board. In addition to silver and colored pieces of glass, the contains small items ranging from plastic gems, buttons, toy pieces, Waldo and so on.

Leona Rega, center coordinator, stated her appreciation to all the volunteers and supporters for working hard on the piece. She added that the mosaic will be given a layer or UV protectant every few months.
“We kept running out of purple things,” said East. “Rega and I even went shopping for tiny purple things. It was definitely a fun project for everyone.”
