FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO FIRE AT VACANT HOME IN TAMAQUA; MAN PLACED IN POLICE CRUISER

Fire in Basement, 3 North Lehigh Street, Tamaqua, 4-4-2015 (14)All four Tamaqua fire companies responded to a North Lehigh Street home this afternoon (Saturday, April 4, 2015) for a report of fire and smoke at a home. Around 4:20 PM, emergency personnel were called to 3 North Lehigh Street, at the intersection of West Broad Street (US209), for a garage fire. Firefighters arrived at the vacant home to see smoke coming from the front lower level of the home. Smoke could be seen coming from the gated front yard to the home.
Firefighters said the fire was contained to the exterior basement entry way.
The incident appeared to be under control in a short time.
Coaldale Fire Company, Tamaqua Fire Police and Lehighton Ambulance also responded. Fire police closed that part of North Lehigh Street for the duration.
No injuries were observed.
Most units were cleared around 5:35 PM. Although, Tamaqua Police and fire chief stayed on scene to investigate.
Police placed an unidentified man in the back of one of the responding police cars. It is unknown if the man was arrested or charged with a crime. No more information is available.
