TRAFFIC BACKED UP FOR MILES FOLLOWING TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN TAMAQUA

Two Vehicle Accident, Bottom of Hometown Hill, SR309, Tamaqua, 3-12-2015 (34)No serious injuries were observed following a two-vehicle accident involving a box truck and a large sport utility vehicle this morning (Thursday, March 12, 2015) at the bottom of Hometown Hill (SR309) in Tamaqua.
Emergency personnel were dispatched around 7 AM to the area of Taggertsville Road and SR309 for a report of a two-vehicle accident with unknown injuries.
The accident, which involved a white box truck from Uni-Select USA of New York and a dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche, caused traffic to be affected in both directions for over a mile. Traffic was stopped as far back as the Five Points (SR209/SR309) intersection in Tamaqua and the Tide Road/Wal-Mart intersection in Hometown.
Responding were Tamaqua Fire Department, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Tamaqua Ambulance, Tamaqua Police and others.
Tamaqua and Hometown Fire Police controlled traffic at the scene and major intersections.
As of 8:10 AM, southbound traffic was not moving, while northbound traffic was moving slowly.
