Two or more people were injured after their SUV crashed into a creek along State Route 54 in Rush Township around 3 PM today (Friday, February 20, 2015).
The incident, which involved one vehicle (a blue Dodge Durango) with 4 occupants, happened near the intersection of Holly Road and Pine Creek Drive (SR54).
A person on scene said that the vehicle hit a snow bank, snapped a utility pole, launched over guardrail, impacted a speed limit sign and then landed in Pine Creek. The person added that the driver and passengers were lucky since the creek wasn’t very deep and that the vehicle landed on its tires rather.
Responding were Ryan Township Fire Company. Delano Fire Company, Hometown Fire Company, Mahanoy City Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Ryan Township Police, Rush Township Police, and others. Also responding were ambulance crews from Ryan Township and Tamaqua.
Hometown Fire Police and Tamaqua Fire Police closed that part of SR54 for the duration.
Rush Township Police Sergeant Duane Frederick said the driver, Miriam Arnold, 52, and a passenger, Ronald Pugh, 42, both of Mahanoy City, got out of the vehicle on their own. Two children, ages 12 and 14, were transported to St Luke’s Hospital in Coaldale with unknown injuries.
Hope’s Towing and Collision removed the vehicle.
