TAMAQUA AREA MUSIC DEPARTMENT HOSTING 2015 SCHUYLKILL COUNTY CHORAL FESTIVAL; CONCLUDES FEB. 21 IN TAMAQUA

UPDATE: Due to the impending weather on Saturday… The time of the Schuylkill County Choral Festival at Tamaqua on Saturday, February 21, 2015 has been moved up to a 9 AM start.


PRESS RELEASE – The Tamaqua Area Music Department announces it will be hosting the 2015 Schuylkill County Choral Festival beginning on Tuesday, February 17th and continuing through Saturday, February 21, 2015. The festival, an annual four-day event, will conclude on Saturday, February 21st with a concert for the public in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium at 2 PM.

The Schuylkill County Chorus is comprised of students from grades 8 thru 12 from thirteen participating high schools throughout Schuylkill County. Students were selected to participate in the four-day chorus festival in October of 2014 by competitive vocal audition at Pottsville High School. This year’s chorus will be under the direction of David Lantz III, a noted composer, educator, and choral director at East Stroudsburg North High School.

The program will offer the best in choral music selections from classical to jazz and pop. The chorus will sing: ” Two Mozart Masterworks”, “Hosanna to the Son of David”, “‘Tis The Last Rose of Summer”, “Stephen Foster Madrigals”, “Earth Song”, “Climbing Over Rocky Mountain”, “Hey There, Lonely Girl”, “My Romance”, “A City Called Heaven ”, “Closer to the Flame”,  and “Kuimba!”.

Admission to the concert is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door. The program will begin at 2 PM. Doors to the auditorium will open at 1:20 PM.
