An All-You-Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner was held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Hometown Fire Company to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).
The event, sponsored by J.E.M. Hair Designs and Hometown Fire Company, raised over $5,000 for WWP.
Jade Roetz, owner of J.E.M., and her husband Steve, of Hometown, stated their passion for supporting the troops. Jade’s brother served tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. “Although he escaped injury during his tours, it became evident that some returning soldiers were not as fortunate,” said Jade.
Roetz said on Facebook, “I want to thank everyone who honored our wounded warriors today. None of this would have been possible without the help of my family, friends, and community… This is Way beyond my wildest dreams. Thank you again to all my volunteers and the Hometown Fire Company. In addition to helping wounded servicemen and women, this event served as a way for my husband and myself to give back to the community.”
She added that over $5,200 was raised.
The mission of Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP) is to honor and empower wounded warriors. WWP’s purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. WWP is a national, nonpartisan organization headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida.
More than 52,000 servicemen and women have been injured in the recent military conflicts. In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The 20 programs and services provided by WWP are uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.
