Emergency personnel were called to 232 Hillside Drive last night (Tuesday, January 20, 2015) in Ryan Township for a report of a structure fire. The call came out around 10:15 PM.
Officials said they arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the home. In addition, flames could be seen through an opened basement door, as well as shooting up an air exchange vent on the first floor.
Firefighters were quick to extinguish the fire before it could spread to the rest of the house, which suffered substantial damage to the basement.
The unofficial cause of the fire was deemed to be related to the heating system.
Responding were Ryan Township Fire Company, Ryan Township Ambulance, Quakake Fire Company, Delano Fire Company, Mahanoy City Fire Company, Hometown Fire Company and others.
Hometown Fire Police controlled traffic around the area.
