A building was leveled by fire tonight (Saturday, January 10, 2015) in Blythe Township, just north of Middleport. The building, located on New Philadelphia Road/Kaska Street, was fully involved when firefighters arrived. At first, it was unknown if anyone was in the building at the time. It was later determined that no one was living at the property.
Emergency responders were initially dispatched at 8:08 PM to the area of 51 North Valley Street (SR209) in New Philadelphia due to a caller’s misinformation. Firefighters were quick to find the correct location. (https://goo.gl/maps/gur6I)
Responding in 8 degree temperatures were Middleport Fire Company, Kaska Fire Company, Cumbola Fire Company, New Philadelphia Fire Company, and others.
Online news coverage states that the fire chief is calling the fire suspicious since there was no power to the property and the building wasn’t occupied.
Firefighters were called back to the property for a rekindle shortly after 2 AM.
