The National Weather Service (NWS) in State College has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for our area; which is in effect from 1 PM today (Wednesday, January 7, 2015) to 3 PM Thursday.
The advisory continues:
* Locations…much of central Pennsylvania.
* Hazard types…dangerously low wind chills.
* Timing…the coldest of the wind chills will be late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
* Impacts…possible frostbite on exposed skin.
* Winds…west 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* Wind chill readings…as low as 15 below zero.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
If you will be outdoors…dress in layers and wear a hat and gloves. Young children…the elderly and the homeless are especially vulnerable to the cold. Appropriate action should be taken to ensure pets have adequate protection from the cold temperatures.
In addition, NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning. It reads:
