PRESS RELEASE – The Tamaqua Area School District is accepting exemption applications for the assessed occupation tax for the 2015-16 school year.
Retired persons and housewives with no earned income who have previously filed and application and been approved for exemption need not file again unless their status has changed and they now have earned income, according to a district release.
People who are disabled or age 75 or older who have been specifically notified by the district that they are exempt do not have to fill an application.
Students 18 years old as of June 3 are responsible for the tax unless exempt by application.
Requests for exemption are due no later than March 1, 2015.
Application forms are available at the district administration building, tax collectors’ offices, the Tamaqua Borough Hall, Tamaqua Public Library and all local post offices and banks.
