An unidentified man was taken into custody by police around 10:15 PM last night (Friday, December 26, 2014) after crashing his SUV into a tree along Tuscarora Park Road, about a half mile southeast of the state park entrance, in Rush Township.
James Spotts and a friend, both from Coaldale, were driving the opposite direction on Tuscarora Park Road when they came upon the crashed SUV, called 911 and offered assistance to the man. They said the man then tried to punch James for helping.
After failing a field sobriety test, the man was taken into custody.
Police and firefighters could be seen searching the adjacent woods for unknown items possibly thrown into the woods by the man.
The man refused care from the ambulance crew.
Responding were Rush Township Police, Tamaqua Police, Hometown Fire Company, Ryan Township Ambulance and Hometown Fire Police.
