Firefighters from Lansford and surrounding communities were quick to save a set of attached homes along East Kline Avenue in Lansford yesterday evening (Monday, December 22, 2014).
Emergency responders were called to 530 East Kline Avenue around 6:30 PM for a report of a working structure fire.
Lansford Fire Chief Joe Greco said firefighters were able to contain the flames to the kitchen area of the home.
He added that when firefighters arrived on scene, they entered the home to see a lot of smoke and the kitchen on fire.
Firefighters had the blaze under control within a few minutes.
Connected homes at 528 and 532 East Kline Avenue suffered little to no damage. Two adults living at 532 East Kline Avenue were able to go back into their home. No one lived in 528 West Kline Avenue.
Electricity to 530 East Kline Avenue was turned off for safety reasons. Three adults, living in 530 East Kline Avenue, are living with friends and family in Hazleton until repairs can be made.
Greco added that hot cooking oil on the stove was the cause of the fire.
Neighbors praised all the responders for the quick response.
Greco credited a quick response and professionalism of all responding units.
Responding were Lansford Fire Company, Lansford Police Department, Summit Hill Fire Company, Coaldale Fire Company, Tamaqua Fire Department, Rapid Intervention Team/Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Lehighton Ambulance and others.
Fire police volunteers controlled traffic during the incident.
Residents at 530 East Kline Avenue said their dog (a black Shar-Pei) ran out the front door during the fire. The dog was found a couple hours later with assistance from community members and the Lansford Police Department.
