Four people were taken to the hospital via ambulance this evening (Monday, December 1, 2014) following a two-vehicle accident on SR309 in Rush Township, at the intersection of Lincoln Drive, about a half-mile north of the Wal-Mart intersection.
Emergency responders on scene said rain prevented medical transport via helicopter.
The incident, which occurred around 4:30 PM, involved two females in a grey 2002 Honda Accord and two females in a light brown 2006 Chevy Equinox. The Honda suffered heavy rear-end damage, while the Chevy suffered heavy front-end damage.
Rush Township Police said Stacey Bosworth, 44, of Lansford, was driving the Chevrolet when she rear-ended the back of the Honda, driven by Megan McClintock, 17, of Weatherly, who was stopped at the intersection. Both were injured along with a Brenda Gigli, 38, Tamaqua, a passenger in the Chevrolet, and Tina McClintock, 42, a passenger in the Honda. All were transported to St Lukes hospital in Coaldale. Police added that Bosworth was at fault and is facing traffic violations.
Responding were Rush Township Police, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Hometown Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company, Tamaqua Ambulance, McAdoo Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, APTS-Hazleton Ambulance and others.
Drivers on Facebook said they didn’t move for 25-minutes. They added that some traffic extended more than a mile in both directions.
Hometown Fire Police directed traffic around the area during the extraction and cleanup.
Hope’s Towing removed both vehicles.
Rush Township Corporal Adam Sinton is the investigating officer.
