Two drivers were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash around 2:15 PM today (Friday, November 28, 2014) in Hometown. The incident occurred on SR309, just south of the
Claremont Avenue (SR309) and SR54 intersection, at the intersection of Holland Street.
Due to heavy vehicle congestion at the Wal-Mart parking lot, the helicopter had to land at the parking lot of the bowling alley – located adjacent to the HT Commons.
According to the online Times News story, eyewitnesses to the collision said a Subaru Imprezu driven by an elderly man from the Lake Hauto area tried to enter Route 309 from Holland Street at 2:15 p.m. when the car shot across four lanes of traffic. In the process, the Subaru collided with a northbound Dodge Grand Caravan and narrowly missed other vehicles before being stopped by impact with the southbound curb.
Responding were Rush Township Police, Hometown Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Tamaqua Ambulance and others.
Hometown Fire Police and other officials directed Black Friday traffic around the scene.
