Over 240 students from West Penn Elementary School joined together to recognize veterans during the school’s annual Veteran’s Day Program held on (Tuesday, November 11, 2014) in the school gymnasium.
During the program, each grade performed a musical number. In addition, many of the attending veteran’s names and their branch of service were read aloud.
At times, tears could be seen flowing from staff and family members as they watched a video slideshow or listened to all the students sing.
Program coördinator and music teacher Samantha Yachera praised the students for their work preparing for the program. Yachera also thanked the kids and their families for collecting Beanie Babies for Operation Gratitude.
All veterans were treated to a free luncheon by the school following the program.
