Emergency responders were called shortly after 2:30 PM today (Saturday, November 8, 2014) to a working structure fire at 79 Silver Creek Road in Blythe Township (located north of New Philadelphia).
Firefighters arrived to see the home completely engulfed in smoke and fire.
Officials on scene said the occupants, Jerry and Linda Fogarty, were not home at the time.
After noticing the house was on fire, neighbor James Zembas rushed over to see if the Fogarty’s vehicle was in the driveway. He was relieved to find out they weren’t home.
Despite standing about 80 feet from the fire, Zembas’s hair, eyebrows and eyelashes were singed.
Responding were Tuscarora Fire Company, New Philadelphia Fire Company, Port Carbon Fire Company, Kaska Fire Company, New England/Walker Fire Company, Pottsville-Orwigsburg-Schuylkill Haven EMS and others.
No serious injuries were reported.
