Michael DeWald, 18, of Mahanoy City, earned his Distinguished Eagle Scout Award on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Bethany United Methodist (B.U.M.) Church in Barnesville.
During the spring of this year, DeWald, a scout with Boy Scout Troop 725 of Barnesville, dedicated a couple weeks repairing a 110-foot long retaining wall at the church. DeWald was has been a scout since age 8.
Michael is the son of Candace and Dale DeWald.
Scoutmaster Roy Bradbury, who spoke of Michael’s accomplishments and journey as a scout, said that only about 6 percent of all boy scouts earn the Eagle Scout rank. He also presented Michael with a traditional eagle wood carving.
Officials attending the ceremony were Champ Holman (who presented a congratulatory certificate on half of Senator David Argall), Ed Kleha (who presented a citation on behalf the Representative Neal Goodman), and Pastor Greg Hafer (who presented a proclamation on behalf of the Schuylkill County Commissioners).
