The three-story social hall of the Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport (Northampton County) was heavily damaged by fire around noon today (Sunday, November 2, 2014).
Video and photos online show the fire burning through the roof on both sides of the bell tower.
Walnutport Police told reporters that two people were inside the building, 209 Washington Street, during the fire. They escaped unharmed.
The social hall, built in 1911, served as the fire company’s first fire house, which now stands across the street from the current station. The fire department’s website states that the building was also the home to the Walnutport State Bank between 1923 and 1978.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
