TUESDAY IS TAMAQUA’S HALLOWEEN PARADE; DONALD SERFASS NAMED AS GRAND MARSHAL

The Tamaqua Lions Club’s 48th Annual Tamaqua Halloween Parade is set for Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Weather for Tuesday night looks to be clear and  around 60 degrees.
Parade staging is at 6:30 PM at the east end of the borough. Parade starts at 7 PM. Rain date is Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
The parade will head west on Broad Street and proceed straight along Broad Street without any turns. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top entries, as determined by a panel of judges. Those prizes include best in show, as well as the top three floats and top three marching groups.

Local historian, writer and photographer Donald Serfass will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal. In addition to working for the Times News newspaper and earning many writing awards, Serfass has volunteered with numerous non-profit clubs and community organizations. Some of which include chairman and past president of the Downtown Tamaqua Inc.; Penn Ambassador of the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission; past resident of the Tamaqua Historical Society, co-manager of the 55-block Tamaqua National Historic District; member of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership; member of the Tamaqua Save Our Station; charter member of the IOOF Harmony Lodge #86 in Tamaqua; former member and scribe of the Scott Encampment #132; former member of the Patriarchs Militant and Allentown Canton #39; former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #592 in Tamaqua; member of the former Critics Circle Lakewood Musical Playhouse in Barnesville; public address announcer during the Bavarian Summer Festival in Barnesville; founding member of the Curtain Call Players; cast member of ‘Dearest Teacher’ at Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre; cast extra for the Warner Bros. Studio TV movie ‘You Can’t Go Home Again’; founder of the Victorian Highwheelers of Tamaqua and so on. He is also the author of the book “Iron Steps, Illustrated History of Tamaqua.”
All parade participants are responsible to pickup their registration number and map before the day of the parade. Registrations were due by October 22.
