A mall memo provided to store managers at the Schuylkill Mall in Frackville yesterday (Thursday, October 16, 2014) disseminates a formal notification that Sears will be closing their doors in January 2015.
The store’s 84 employees were notified Wednesday of the closure.
The memo adds, “Obviously, this is heartbreaking news for Schuylkill Mall, and we and our customers will greatly miss the major retailer in our mall and county.”
On a positive note, new additions to the mall include Care Givers of America and the construction of a major call center at the Black Diamond wing of the mall. No more information is available about the call center.
Sears is closing five Pennsylvania stores in January. A spokesman for Sears Holdings Corp. said that, in addition to Sears in Frackville, Sears stores in Bloomsburg, Chambersburg, Lebanon and Pittsburgh Mills are slated to close.
The stores will begin liquidation sales on Oct. 31 and close to the public in mid-January.

  1. How very sad. Sears has been a staple of the Schuylkill Mall for years. They have GREAT Products and they will forever be missed. I as a child remember my parents shopping there because they were the first one to have a charge account for those who could not afford to pay cash! What a downfall to our area!!!!!
