Volunteers with Tamaqua Fire Police, Hometown Fire Police and West Penn Fire Police held a search training exercise recently in Hometown.
The exercise, held on state game lands in the area of Ridge and Blackwell streets, involved a training scenario in which a hunter was missing in the thick woods.
Normally not utilized during searches, fire police normally remain at key points to keep the public away from the search area and help when necessary.
“In some situations, trained fire police volunteers will be asked to assist firefighters and other emergency responders,” said Merle Wertman, Captain, Hometown Fire Police.
In October of 2008, Hometown Fire Police volunteers located a man lost on top of the Brockton Mountain.
