GIVING DURING THE SHENANDOAH FIRES

Fire 3 of 3, 300 block of East Centre Street, Shenandoah, 9-28-2014 (512)Pictured at 3:15 AM on Sunday, September 28, 2014, is Dave Gottschall, of Shenandoah Heights, dropping off cases of refreshments for emergency responders fighting multiple fires in Shenandoah.
About 300 firefighters were called to battle four structure fires early Sunday morning.
Making two trips to WalMart in their car, Gottschall and his girlfriend Bobbie Karpovich purchased and dropped off 15 cases of Gatorade, PowerAde and water to the firefighters and other responders.
“All of the firefighters are the true depiction of selflessness,” said Karpovich. “My boyfriend Dave’s son left early September for the army. Prior to that he was a member of the rescue hook and ladder. I watched him and his friends give up every Saturday and Wednesday to go to fire school. Then watched as every time their pager went off how they dropped everything to respond. They are the true heroes.”
Numerous other residents and local businesses also donated refreshments and snacks.
