

Staff, officials and volunteers with the Tamaqua YMCA held an open house and ribbon cutting on Friday, September 5, 2014 for their new expansion and addition of new state-of-the-art equipment.
The Tamaqua YMCA, which currently has about 1,900 members, was expanded recently by 5,075 square feet. The facility expansion included a party room, fitness room, aerobic studio, group exercise center and more. The cost of the expansion totaled about $200,000.
In addition, new state-of-the-art equipment was added. The cost of the new equipment totaled about $135,000.
Staff said that most of the work was paid for via donations and grant money.
“We’re very happy to have this in our town,” said Tom Cara, Board President, Tamaqua YMCA. “This is a shining star that brings people from around the entire area.
