CHARITY CHALLENGE RUN/WALK/FUN RUN HELD AT HEISLER’S DAIRY BAR; (VIDEO AND PHOTOS)

Organizers held a Charity Challenge 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Kids Fun Run race on Sunday, August 31, 2014 – starting at Heisler’s Dairy Bar in Walker Township.
The race, organized and sponsored by USA Martial Arts & Fitness of Tamaqua, stretched through the rolling roadways of the Lewistown Valley.
Jon Bonner, race director, billed the race as “the race to benefit everybody”. He added that any charity or non-profit organization was able to enter runners or walkers in the event and raise money for their cause by obtaining sponsors.

Placing top in the races were first place Kids Fun Run winner Cael Rickard, who turned 9 on Sept. 8, of Orwigsburg; first place male 5K winner Michael Heimes, 36, of Upper Macungie Township (Reading); and first place female 5K winner Tracy Harris, 40, of Bethlehem.
In addition, the overall race winner got to choose where a lump sum of money would be donated by the race event. Heimes, who placed top overall with a time of 18:41, chose to donate the Charity Challenge proceeds to Candace Nickischer of Lehigh Township, who is currently battling stage four colon cancer. (Info)
