A 19-year old male was transported via ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital following a crash with another vehicle just before 8 PM yesterday (Tuesday, September 2, 2014) on US209 at the Brockton intersection in Schuylkill Township.
The man, who was conscious and talking with emergency responders, suffered broken bones and other injuries. A medical transport helicopter was initially requested, but unable to fly due to weather.
Firefighters on scene said man’s helmet and leather biker suit prevented more serious injuries.
A witness to the accident said that biker, who was traveling southwest on US209, impacted the rear passenger’s side of the other car (a grey Chevy Cavalier) as the car was turning at the Brockton/US209 intersection.
US209 was closed about an hour. Firefighters and fire police redirected traffic around the scene. Detour spots included the Mary D/US209 intersection and Middleport/US209 intersection.
Responding were Brockton Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Tuscarora Fire Company, Mary D Fire Company, Middleport Fire Company, New Philadelphia Fire Company, Tamaqua Ambulance, and Schuylkill Haven-Pottsville-Orwigsburg Ambulance.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
TamaquaArea.com won’t release the victim’s name until police do. (So don’t ask.)
